PSL 2021: PCB, franchises decide to hold matches in June
The decision was taken after a virtual meeting between PSL franchise owners and PCB officials, where it was unanimously decided that the remaining matches would be played in Karachi, sources said.
The PCB had said that the sixth edition of the tournament was postponed to 4March after several players and officials started testing positive for the virus inside the bio-safe bubble.
"June emerged as the most preferred and practical window for the Pakistani national cricket team due to its international affiliations [March, April, late August and September]," the PCB said in a statement.
Explaining the decision, the PCB said the remaining 20 fixtures were being planned in June, before the men's national cricket team returned from Zimbabwe on May 13 and before leaving for England on June 26. It is being prepared keeping in view the matter.
PSL XI - TOP SCORER
Colin Munro (285 runs, 57.00 Avg, 169.64 SR)
Islamabad United's top order looks a little sad without Luke Ronchi, but the New Zealand teammate filled the boots impressively and without interruption. Despite the PSL being only available for the Abu Dhabi leg, he hit the ground running, taking United on several explosive starts. Neither side scored high in the power play, and when he got a support from Usman Khawaja, Monroe was the main reason. Two innings were particularly notable: 90 off 36 balls which gave United their highest PSL score ever and chased a target of 137 in ten overs, and an unbeaten 88 in 56 followed by 191. Sealed playoff qualification.
Mohammad Rizwan (500 runs, 45.45 Avg, 127.87 SR)
Rizwan is looking a bit wrong in T20 cricket these days, but he didn't just join the team for his excellent wicket-keeping and excellent captaincy, which helped Multan Sultans win the PSL title. His impressive form in Karachi saw him score 71, 41, 76, 43 and 66 while Sultan was struggling to win on the board. But he played an unbeaten 82-run innings in Abu Dhabi, which made the Sultans laugh. His steadfastness and perseverance - he failed to reach double digits only once in 12 innings - gave the Sultans a solid platform, giving their big hitters freedom and license. At least the man who follows him is at number three, both on the Sultan team and on this list.
Sohaib Maqsood (428 runs, 47.55 Avg, 156.77 SR)
Maqsood started a stormy season with the PSL title and made his first call-up to Pakistan in half a decade. Thanks to his destructive form at the top of the Sultans' order, he scored five half-centuries in 12 innings and scored more runs than any other player in the league. Some shots were made by the other world, who scored 59 runs in the pace-changing innings against United in the qualifiers, before being declared the Player of the Match before doubling to an unbeaten 65 off 35 balls in the final.
Shoaib Malik (354 runs, 35.40 Avg, 149.36 SR)
Malik insisted that he had not yet been named as an international T20I cricketer, and that he had done little harm to his chances this season for Peshawar Zalmai. The strike rate is significant, but it was his ability to combine his more traditional anchoring role with an all-out attack when really affected. Only three players hit more than 17 sixes in all the seasons of the country and even if Zalmai remained at the second position, the personal season of the country ended with 168 runs in the last four games. The final included 48 off 28 balls and an unbeaten chase of 248 with 68 off 36 balls. Second qualifier
Sherfane Rutherford (276 runs, 34.50 Avg, 153.33 SR)
The 22-year-old Guinness was an undesirable hero, but his regular partnership lowered the order and gave Peshawar Zalmai the late innings he needed. An unbeaten innings of 36 off 18 balls that put Dale Steyn on the sword while playing in Karachi, Zalmi chased down 202 runs. It was one of the easiest innings of the match, which means that Zalmai is always a threat to the opposition at the end of the innings. He would end the winning runs in the nerve-wracking final over to end the Karachi Kings and in the end Monroe was the only foreign player to score more than 276 runs.
Tim David (180 runs, 45.00 Avg, 166.66 SR)
There is something about people named David that is saving the Lahore Qalandars from hopeless scenes. Probably the biggest box pick, Singaporeans replaced South Africa's David Weiss for the Abu Dhabi leg, and took the competition by storm. An invaluable unbeaten 23 led the Qalandars to their final victory in their debut, while an unbeaten 64 in 36 in the second game then saved them from 25 for four and ensured a ten-run victory. The victory for the Qalandars then dried up, but David's contribution did not diminish. He launched an astonishing counter-attack that sealed a famous victory against the Kings, ending up as the Qalandars' highest run-scorer in the second round.
