 COMMENTARY

In this test, Pakistan's determination to come back from difficult situations is commendable. A great victory after disappointments in New Zealand. As for South Africa, they need to follow in the footsteps of Markram and Van der Dawson and find ways to deal with spin. The removal of some of them was really mild. That's it for us right now. The next test is in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Until then, goodbye to Sagar Chawla on behalf of Pradeep Krishnamurthy, Akshay Mane and Mukesh

 Babar Azam, Pakistan captain

Credit to the players who worked so hard. The wicket was very slow. Our plan was to bat first, but we managed to adjust our plans. I talked about the importance of partnership. The way Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali revived the innings was brilliant. After that Noman Ali and Yasir Shah bowled very well with the help of fast bowlers. South Africa is a standard team, their fast bowlers are very good. The way Noman Ali played on his debut, he showed his first class experience.

 Quinton de Kock, SA captain

Our first innings batting performance (our price). That was a big factor in losing the game. Don't think that it took us long to adjust to the bounce. It was just a matter of our being gentle. In the second inning we saw Rasi and Eden (well adjusted). Our bowlers bowled really well with great aggression, great accuracy. Pakistan batted well against us.

Fawad Alam, Player of the Match

Very important knock. The team was 27/4. The better we did in the first innings, the easier it would have been. International pressure is high, especially after such a long return. I am enjoying my time in the dressing room. The pitch had double (variable) bounce, double speed, rough patch. But it was about applying yourself, going with the flow and not thinking about what was happening on the pitch. That was my thinking - applying myself.

Lots of things to remember about this test. Babar Azam's captaincy begins South Africa's first game in Pakistan in almost 14 years. Noman Ali's five runs on debut. Yasir Shah's spell of tomorrow and his complete education of Faf du Plessis. But the one that stands out from the rest is Fawad Alam's first innings century. It was his innings that pulled Pakistan out of the ruins of 27/4, eventually laying the groundwork for a big lead. He can't bring back the time he lost after being out of the team for 11 years, but if life is about making the most of the opportunities you get, he's definitely doing it. Got a century in New Zealand, and now the first century at home. Offers are coming.

Pakistan vs South Africa, 2nd Test

South Africa was good on the pitch, their scorecard in all 4 innings is a clear reflection of that. They need to speed it up, even though Pakistan have won the smallest format since winning their first Test series against the Proteas since October 2003. The group smiled broadly and shouted together to celebrate the moment. OK then! That's all we have for the series. The T20s are starting from Thursday, all three are scheduled in Lahore. Remember to join us for all games. Until next time, it is Raju Pithla saying goodbye on behalf of Abhinandan Raghuvindran and Harish. A special mention for all our fielders: Vineet, Sri Ram, Parveen, Vinod, Naga and Mukesh. Very good !!

Babar Azam, Pakistan skipper

I enjoyed captaincy and learned a lot. When the team supports you and plays according to plan, there is not much pressure on the captain. Hassan Ali made a great comeback, he is playing after 2 years and his bowling was really great. This morning Hassan Ali gave us those early wickets and brought us back into the game. We keep testing the senior junior combination in the slip cordon and we are working on our fielding aspect and are very happy with our catching in the series. It gives us a lot of confidence and gives a lot of confidence to the group. Markram and Bawoma played very well but we knew we could always handle that success and get things done with the new ball.

Quinton de Kock, South Africa captain

The losses we incurred did not give us a good way forward. He played a big role. We lost big moments in the game and we had to pay the price. It's special to see George (Linde) come, especially after parting his finger, showing the heart he has. It was great to see him back. This (defeat) is painful at the moment, frustration. When we get back home, we have to look at our performances, the way we move and move on about things. Eden has been a question mark in the subcontinent since the past, the way he came and the way he performed in two Test matches shows the fight he has on his performances.

Mohammad Rizwan, Player of the Series

Thank God Almighty. I play according to the team plan. It was difficult in situations like England and New Zealand, but the challenges are different and you will have to make some minor technical adjustments. I have a lot of self-confidence and I challenge myself in stressful situations.

Hasan Ali, Player of the Match

It was a very important series for me because I was coming back and I am happy that I came back in the dream and my contribution in winning the series was helpful for the team. Lines and lengths are very important on slow pitches and I have had fitness issues in the past but I have worked on it and I have played back-to-back first class games which gave me the confidence I needed to get back.
